Privacy notice

How modbrief.com handles information, and the many things it does not do with it.

1. Who is behind this site

This site, modbrief.com, is run by an individual, Matilda Wilson. There is no organisation behind it and it is not a commercial venture: it is one reader's note about one Android game.

2. What this notice covers

This notice covers the pages published at modbrief.com. It does not cover Google Play, the store listing for Wolf Jigsaw Puzzles, or any other destination you reach by following a link from here. Those services publish their own privacy documents and handle information on their own terms.

3. The site collects no personal information through its pages

There is no form anywhere on this site. There is no search field, no sign-up, no newsletter, no account, no comment area and no upload. The site sets no cookies of its own and carries no analytics, no advertising script, no social plugin and no push notifications.

The only way to reach the person who writes this site is by e-mail. A message you send travels from your own mail provider to the mailbox at the address above; it does not pass through these pages, and no copy of it is stored on the web server.

4. Information handled automatically when a page is served

Serving a web page is a technical exchange, and a small amount of information is unavoidably handled:

• Server logs — the internet protocol (IP) address your connection presents, the browser user-agent string, the address of the page requested, the referring address if your browser sends one, the date and time, the response code and the number of bytes sent.
• Delivery network data — the same technical fields are handled by the content delivery network that sits in front of the site, together with aggregate performance measurements such as how long a page took to load. No cookie is set for this.

An IP address can be personal information under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) where it can be linked to a person. Here it is linked to nothing: the logs are not combined with any other source, are not used to build a profile of a reader, and are never sold, rented or passed to an advertising network.

5. Why each category is handled, and on what basis

• Server logs — purpose: delivering the pages you asked for, keeping the site available, and investigating faults or automated abuse of the server. Basis: the ordinary technical operation of a website.
• Delivery network data — purpose: routing a request to a nearby server, filtering automated abuse and measuring whether pages load acceptably. Basis: the same technical necessity.
• E-mail correspondence — purpose: reading and answering the point you raised. Basis: your own decision to write.

6. How long each category is kept

• Server logs: retained by the hosting provider for no more than 30 days, then overwritten in the ordinary rotation.
• Delivery network data: retained by the network operator for short technical windows measured in days rather than months.
• E-mail correspondence: kept while the matter is open and for up to 12 months afterwards, then deleted from the mailbox.

7. Who else can see this information

• The hosting provider that stores the files and answers requests for them.
• Cloudflare, Inc., a network operator based in the United States, which delivers the pages and may measure technical performance without setting cookies.

Nobody else. Nothing is disclosed for marketing purposes, and in any case there is nothing to disclose, because the pages collect nothing about you.

8. Handling outside Australia (APP 8)

Cloudflare, Inc. is based in the United States and operates a network that spans many countries, so the technical connection data described above is necessarily handled outside Australia. Australian Privacy Principle 8 requires reasonable steps to be taken before information is disclosed to an overseas recipient. The step taken here is to rely on a provider that publishes binding privacy commitments and contractual terms covering the handling of such data. If you would prefer that your connection is not handled overseas, the only reliable course is not to visit the site.

9. The Australian Privacy Principles and the small business position

Matilda Wilson is an individual acting as a small business operator, and section 6D of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) exempts most small business operators from that Act. Rather than lean on the exemption, the Australian Privacy Principles set out in Schedule 1 to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) are applied here voluntarily and in full to everything handled through this site. The commitment is stated plainly so that you can hold the site to it.

10. Access and correction (APP 12 and APP 13)

You may ask what information about you is held, ask for a copy of it, and ask for anything inaccurate to be corrected. Write to desk@modbrief.com and describe what you are asking for. No fee is charged and a reply is normally sent within 30 days. If a request cannot be met — for example because a log entry can no longer be tied to you, or has already been overwritten — the reason will be given in writing.

11. Complaints

If you believe information has been mishandled, write first to Matilda Wilson at desk@modbrief.com. If you are not satisfied with the answer, or no answer arrives, you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC):

12. Data breach notification

The Notifiable Data Breaches scheme in Part IIIC of the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) applies where a data breach is likely to result in serious harm to the people it concerns. Should such a breach occur in connection with this site, those affected and the OAIC would be notified as soon as practicable, with a description of what happened, which information was involved and what should be done in response.

13. No marketing messages (Spam Act 2003)

This site runs no mailing list, publishes no newsletter and sends no commercial electronic messages of any kind. No address is harvested from correspondence and none is added to any list. The Spam Act 2003 (Cth) governs commercial electronic messages sent to Australian addresses; the position here is compliance by sending nothing at all.

14. Children

This site is not directed at children under 13 years of age and holds nothing that would identify a child. If you believe a child has sent personal information to the address above, write and the message will be deleted from the mailbox.

15. Security

Pages are served over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The site is a set of static files: there is no database, no login page, no administration panel reachable from the public site, and no personal information held on the server beyond the technical logs described in section 4. The mailbox is protected by a long, unique password and a second factor.

16. Consumer rights

Nothing is sold through this site, so no purchase is involved. Your rights under the Australian Consumer Law (Schedule 2 to the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 (Cth)), administered by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), are unaffected by anything written in this notice.

17. Changes to this notice

If the way information is handled changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top is updated. A material change will be described in the first section rather than buried in the middle. This version takes effect on 4 September 2026.
